HSBC Helps Gulshan Literacy Program School

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in Bangladesh helped Gulshan Literacy Program (GLP) School with BDT100,000 to expand the school's educational program. A cheque was handed over in this amount at a simple ceremony on 05 April at the school's premises.

Gulshan Literacy Program School has been providing primary education to the destitute children in the Gulshan slum areas since 1985. From a small beginning, the GLP School has now grown to accommodate 181 children. The school, employing 6 teachers follows the Bangladeshi curriculum. Classes are held 5 days a week and range from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Recently, the school has expanded their program and started a second kindergarten class with 20 new students.

HSBC is committed to contributing towards the educational efforts of organizations that cater to the underprivileged children of our society. GLP school has been providing education to the slum kids of the Gulshan area for the last 20 years and provided the perfect opportunity for HSBC to contribute towards the financial needs of the school.

Mr Steve Banner, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Bangladesh handed over the cheque to Mrs Shipra Dev, a teacher of the GLP School on 5 April 2005. Among others Mr Muneer Hussain, Manager Marketing and Public Relations, HSBC, Laila F Rahim, Branch Manager, HSBC Gulshan and Mrs Wati Kamayana of GLP school were present at the occasion
