13 April 2005 HSBC provides support to Milon Akhyer Gyan School in Chittagong

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in Bangladesh helped Milon Akhyer Gyan School in Chittagong with BDT100,000 to expand the school's educational program. A cheque was handed over in this amount at a simple ceremony on 13 April at the school's premises.
Milon Akhyer Gyan School was started in 1998 by the Milon Community Support Network and provides basic education to slum children of the Kazir Daori area of Chittagong. The school has 3 teachers and 85 students from Nursery to Class 5. They follow the Government curriculum with emphasis on reading and writing English and Bengali. The school provides uniforms and educational materials to the children along with food during mealtimes. The children are computer literate from use of the 4 computers, 2 of which were donated by HSBC.
Mr Steve Banner, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Bangladesh handed over the cheque to the School on 13 April 2005. Among others, Bilquis Dada, trustee of Milon Community Support, Mr Mahbub Ur Rahman, Manager, CMB, Mr Reza Ahmed, Manager, HSBC Chittagong and other officials from HSBC and the School were present on the occasion.
This initiative reflects HSBC's continuous efforts to contribute towards education of underprivileged children of the society.
