HSBC Cleans Dhanmondi lake area

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in Bangladesh held a daylong environmental program at Dhanmondi lake area on 05 June 2006 as part of this year's World Environment Day.

Dhanmondi Lake area is one of the city's prime green spots and is visited by many people on a daily basis. HSBC decided to hold a daylong cleaning programme at this place to observe World Environment Day. Mr Steve Banner, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh along with another 60 Bank staff and 50 student volunteers took part in the cleaning operation. HSBC had invited the 50 students from different universities to participate in the Bank's initiative to raise awareness amongst the students

The volunteers gathered at the designated place in the lake area at 7am in the morning and the cleaning drive went on until 4:30pm in the afternoon. HSBC provided breakfast and lunch to all the volunteers.

This event helped raise awareness about cleaning and protecting the parks in Dhaka city amongst the volunteers and visitors. This initiative is also part of the Bank's corporate social responsibility.
