HSBC organises charity event for the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed
HSBC recently assisted in organising and conducting a series of activities for the public at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar. HSBC staff participated in a "Road Safety and Awareness" rally to promote the work of the CRP as well as provide an enjoyable day for CRP residents.
Mr David .I H Griffiths, CEO of HSBC in Bangladesh. inaugurated the event by planting a tree at the new 14,400 square feet medicinal plant herbarium. Under its global "Investing in Nature" programme. HSBC will provide 500 seedlings to the herbarium project, which will offer CRP a potential income source as supplier of' medicinal herbs, a bio-diversity preservation area and a centre for national and international academic/research institutions to conduct research on medicinal plants.
Mr Brian J McGuire, Manager, Credit Risk Management of HSBC in Bangladesh, donated educational books and sports items to the CRP's Special Needs School and medicines for the CRP hospital in Savar. The donated medicines were supplied by HSBC's valued customers Glaxo SmithKline, Novartis, ACI, Jayson Pharmaceuticals, Square Pharmaceuticals and Eskavef.
HSBC in Bangladesh organised a painting exhibition in the Gulshan office of the artist Lovely on Thursday, 8th August 2002.
Lovely is a mouth painter and resident of the Centre for the Rehabilitation of Paralysed (CRP). She has no sensation or muscle power below her neck. She suffered a cervical spinal cord injury as a result of a fall from fourth floor of a building in 1995 when she was about ten years of age. Her treatment at CRP, like that of many other desperately poor people in Bangladesh, was entirely supported by donations. During her treatment at CRP, she developed a fascination in painting pictures and had developed a skill to paint with her mouth.
The proceeds from this Painting Exhibition were donated to the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) for the physiotherapeutic treatment, education and occupational development of Lovely and others like her.
Thank you to our friends and customers who came to the exhibition, and special thanks to those who bought paintings.
