HSBC in Bangladesh sponsored a School Environment Fair in Gazipur on 6 June 2003 to observe the World Environment Day. The fair was organised by Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS). 27 primary schools from Gazipur and Tongi participated in the fair. The sponsorship enabled BCAS to help students to prepare projects on various issues of environmental importance like bottle gardening, models showing industrial pollution, importance of local medicinal plants, making toys from unutilised items, rain water harvesting model, elephant conservation etc. The projects had been displayed in the fair. The students from different schools also performed dramas and songs depicting environmental issues. David J H Griffiths, CEO of HSBC in Bangladesh distributed prizes to the best three schools.
