The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Limited in Bangladesh donated BDT200,000 to the Children Leukaemia Assistance and Support Services (CLASS) in an endeavour to help cancer stricken children in Bangladesh. The funds were raised from the HSBC Charity Golf Tournament held in December 2003. Mr Rashed H Khandhkar, Manager Network Services Centre of HSBC in Bangladesh handed over the cheque to Mr Enayet Hossain, Secretary General of CLASS on 26 April 2004 in Chittagong. Mr David Hall, Head of Group Public Affairs, HSBC Asia Pacific, who is on a country visit to Bangladesh, graced the ceremony along with Professor Chowdhury B Mahmud, Head of Child Health Department and Brigadier General Toufiqul Alam, Director of Chittagong Medical College and other executives of HSBC in Bangladesh. HSBC’s donation will enable CLASS to render proper medical treatment to the Leukaemia affected children of the Children’s Ward of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital, the only one of its kind in the country. This initiative is a reflection of the Bank’s ongoing contribution to the welfare of the society.
