HSBC organises World Environment Day photography competition

HSBC in Bangladesh organised a photography competition to mark the World Environment Day 2003. The theme was 'Water - Two billion people are dying for it' which reflects the ever-increasing scarcity of this natural resource.

Customers, HSBC staff and general public participated in the competition sending in over 300 photographs. An exhibition was arranged at the HSBC Dhanmondi branch from 1-15 June 2003 where a significant number of photographs were sold. The sale proceeds will be donated to charity.

At the closing ceremony of the exhibition, Abu Taher Khokon, Abir Abdullah, and Md Main Uddin received the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. They had been selected by Rashid Talukdar, senior photojournalist of the Daily Ittafaq, Dr Shahidul Alam, director of DRIK and Chanchal Mahmood, director of the School of Photography Institute and Bulbul Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Photojournalist Society. The guest of honour was Mrs Tamara Ali.

The endeavour was a part of the global 'HSBC in the community' program, which reflects the Bank's ongoing contribution to the local community.
