Climate Awards 2012

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), Limited in Bangladesh and The Daily Star have recognised five climate champion at the awards ceremony of the 'HSBC – The Daily Star Climate Awards 2012'. Each of the winners were awarded with the prestigious 'Climate Champion' trophy for their endeavours to preserve our environment and mitigate the risks of climate change through green business activities, community based initiatives or valuable knowledge sharing practices.

Category 1: Climate Champion in Green Business

Winner: Butterfly Park Bangladesh Limited
Details: For establishing an unique butterfly conservatory and the first butterfly-themed amusement park in Bangladesh

Category 2A: Climate Champion in Green Operations - 100% Bangladeshi owned enterprises

Winner: Rural Services Foundation
Details: For promoting renewable energy and adopting in-house environment management practice in its zonal offices located in different areas of the country

Category 2B: Climate Champion in Green Operations - full or partial foreign owned enterprises

Winner: Kenpark Bangladesh Apparel (Pvt) Limited
Details: For efficient use of natural resources, energy savings, safe waste disposal methods and 100% reuse and recycling policy in its factory premises

Category 3: Climate Champion in Knowledge Management

Winner: Prokriti O Jibon Foundation
Details: For research and exploration on bio-diversity and broadcasting the findings in the popular documentary show 'Prokriti O Jibon'

Category 4: Climate Champion in Community Engagement

Winner: Tangail Forest Division
Details: For innovating a sustainable method of protecting the Madhupur forest by developing the local inhabitants as the 'Community Forest Workers'
