Guidelines and rules

HSBC– IBA Business Case competition

Team Composition

  • Each team shall be comprised of four students currently enrolled in a business school from the same university and institution.
  • No alternates will be permitted.
  • Maximum up to 4 teams would be able to participate from each University/Institution.

Guidelines for First and Second rounds of the competition

  • The 50 to 60 selected teams will be split into 10 groups. Each team will be given 3 hours in the IBA premises to prepare a solution to an international case for presentation. Teams will have to submit their solution within the specified time period and present it afterwards to a panel of judges.
  • Top 30 teams will advance to Round Two. In this round, the teams will similarly have to prepare a solution to an international business case in the IBA premises within a timeframe of 3 hours.
  • Group champions from Round Two will be given a case on the day of the local finale to be solved within 3 hours for the final presentation.

Resources

  • Teams will need to bring their own laptops in the First and Second Round. We will not be able to provide technical support for those laptops.

Presentation

  • The presentations will be 15 minutes, followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session with a panel of judges. If a team finishes its presentation early, it will go right ahead into its 10-minute question-and-answer session.
  • Be prepared for questions from the judges.
  • Practice rooms will be available for teams on the day of competition. Please bring your own laptop to the practice room. We only provide computers in presentation rooms. During the actual presentation the provided computer must be used.
  • Dress for a business setting.
  • Do not include any graphics or words in the presentation or wear any clothing with logos that would identify your university. This will keep it anonymous for the judges.
  • We highly recommend that the presentation of the case include all team members to capitalise on the strengths of each team member.

Judging

  • First and Second round will be judged by a panel of judges from HSBC Bangladesh, UNDP and different corporate houses. The final round will be judged by a panel of five to seven corporate judges.
  • To prevent bias, judges will not know which teams they are judging. Please do not include any identifying marks in your presentations or wear any clothing with University logos.
